When I was kid, well actually my whole life, I distinguished my grandparents as “Beach” and “Ordinary”.

We always called our grandparents Nanna and Poppa. My father parents lived down the beach (three doors away from the beach actually), so they were Beach Nanna and Beach Poppa. My mother’s parents didn’t live anywhere special (well for a kid at least), so they were Ordinary Nanna and Ordinary Poppa. Even when Beach Nan moved to assisted living she was only a stones throw from the beach.

So anyway, my parents just sold there house and are moving about 800 meters from the beach to the Mornington Peninsula suburb of Safety Beach. Hence they have now inherited the official title of “Beach”.

Lauren calls Casey’s parents Grandma and Grandpa so there really is no need for the title, but I think it is cool and reminds my parents that they are way older than me. So they are stuck with it! Yes, I will gladly inherit the title one day if my kids decide to stick me with it.

My Mum asked if this meant she had become her mother-in-law. I thought that was a funny prospect.

Anyway we cannot wait to go visit them, but first we have to have our baby and make some ridiculous amount of money to be able to afford the trip with no hassles and headaches here. Fingers crossed for a great spring and summer season at the Inn and Day Spa.
