Just a second while I get on my soap box.

Ok so I was reading Eastside Big Tom’s note on Facebook about running second to Red Robin in the Best of South Sound for best burger. So I went and voted.

So here are some of the many reasons this is a ridiculous system and reward;

  1. The voting system does not work! I needed to log on twice. My wife only got asked to vote on three items.
  2. There are defunct businesses that have been out of business for over a year (i.e. Clubside Cafe, Ameritel Inn)
  3. IKEA is not in the South Sound! Yet is placing number one for best furniture store.
  4. How on earth any person can think the Olive Garden is better than any of the other Italian restaurants in town baffles me. Yet they are ahead by a mile for Best Italian Restaurant.
  5. Chain stores that do not give a damn about you are right alongside local stores.
  6. Many categories are missing obvious choices altogether.

So correct me if I am wrong, but this is run by The Olympian. Our so called local newspaper. What a load of crap!The editors and staff should be ashamed of themselves. You should be promoting local business and with that the uniqueness that makes our area so great. I can go to Red Robin anywhere, sometimes it is called The RAM or TGI Fridays, it is all the same stuff. Big Tom’s is at the top of my list for a burger after I have been out of state. Unique burgers with decent ingredients and Goop!

It does not take a rocket scientist to work out how to fix this.

  1. Check that the businesses are actually in business.
  2. Get rid of the non-local chains. Something like Meconnis is local, Red Robin is not.
  3. Allow the public to submit suggestions well before voting starts so that the categories are complete.

Now I am forced to go have a burger. I just ate. Thanks for making me fat “Best of South Sound”.
